KATIE NORRID

Light+Bright Lifestyle Newborn Session

Lifestyle Newborn Session

Don’t get me wrong, I am obsessed with the KNP studio / I mean come on its wall to wall windows with 10 foot ceilings and airy drapes, but I still get so giddy walking into someone’s home and documenting such a sweet season.

This particular session was so wonderful with baby Sam and his sweet mom and dad. It really means so much when parents trust me and default to my suggestions. We ideally like to schedule newborn sessions during the first 12ish days of being born. We have done several up to 3 weeks even so don’t panic, but after doing this for so many years have really found this to be the sweet spot.

We were coming up against the clock because of my shoot schedule and Memphis’s weather. We had already rescheduled once due to dark days and were either going to move the session to the studio or shoot on a not “ideal” weather day. I have shot in EVERY condition possibly and I was confident that even without a beautiful sunny day that we would be able to still achieve the same light and airy and timeless images KNP is known for all while being in their home.

I honestly could not be more happy with how this beautiful session unfolded. I hope you take the time and scroll on through just a few images from Sam’s debut!

Are we bloggers?

HELLO friends!

A few things as we start in on this lifestylePLUS blogging adventure….

  1. You will see typos and grammatical errors, I apologize in advance
  2. This will probably be the longest post you will see from me

So a little back story… when I was unexpectedly let go over 5 years ago and I was having to create a new website for my photography business I remember sitting in my playroom with my husband and friend discussing it.  Should it be katienorridphotography.com or just katienorrid.com?  I was leaning more towards katienorrid.com rather than katienorridphotography.com because Katie Norrid is not just photography.  I remember our friend sitting there saying, in a few years when you are sharing more than just photos you will be thankful it is just katienorrid.com.  Here I am 5 years later and sharing more than just photos. That’s why it has always been katienorrid.com and @katienorrid minus the “photography.”

Don’t get me wrong, I am completely obsessed with photography and say it all the time that even if I was a billionaire I would still be doing this because I love it so…. However, my roles have changed– especially this last year. I am now a mom of 3 and have 4 amazing team members as a part of the KNP Team. They are SOOOO amazing that I am now able to be very selective on how many sessions I take and still knowing that KNP clients will get the “Katie” experience with anyone they book from the KNP team. I really can’t articulate how grateful I am for this group and how they have changed my life. I was able to have a real maternity leave and will be able to take off this summer with my kids as well because as much as I do love this little business we’ve created, I love my little humans and their daddy so much more.

I started a personal Instagram a little over a year ago and have had so much fun showing a little peek inside my home with my kiddos and what we do daily (usually in pajamas). It has been so fun to share recipes with friends and share activities that we enjoying doing as a family, as well as some time saving tricks for photographers, moms and humans in general. So here we are sharing all that on a little more polished platform.

One of the favorite activities for my household is baking in the kitchen. I joke with people that my house is clean for 30 minutes on Tuesdays after the housekeepers leave at 1:00 and we return at 1:30. Then its covered in sprinkles, flour, glitter, paint or any number of other things my kids can find to create a “mess” with. So it only makes sense to do our first post about a recipe we love… CHOCOLATE-CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES. Are you ready for some chocolatey goodness to come your way? PREPARE yourselves!

Here is what you need + a few optional ingredients to take this cookie to a NEXT level treat!

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 Cup White Sugar
  •             1 Stick (1/2 Cup) Softened Butter
  •             1 Egg
  •             4 TBSP Milk
  •             1 TBSP Vanilla
  •             1 3.4 oz Chocolate Pudding Mix (YEP!)
  •             1/3 Cup Sour Cream
  •             ½ tsp Salt
  •             ½ tsp Baking Soda
  •             2 Cups Flour
  •   2 Cups Semi Sweet Chocolate Chips

OPTIONAL:

  •             ½ Package of Vanilla Almond Bark
  •             Sprinkles

Now lets put it together…

  1. Cream together the sugar and butter with a mixer. Once fluffy add the egg, milk and vanilla and stir again.
  2. Then add the sour cream and pudding mix til its combined.
  3. In a separate bowl ( I usually just use the measuring cup) mix together the dry ingredients—flour, baking powder and salt.
  4. Add dry ingredients to the wet til they are almost completely combined… I like for it to be still a little flour-y when adding the chips in.
  5. Add the chocolate chips in and BOOM!
little flour-y when mixing in chocolate chips

I use the smallest of these scoops from amazon or just use a spoon and plop them on a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicon sheet like this one from amazon as well

This is the smallest of the 3 scoops
  • Bake at 375 for 8-10 minutes (I like them a little more undercooked than over)
  • Transfer to cooling rack and enjoy… or go for next level….
  • Make sure cookies have completely cooled and dip them halfway into the melted vanilla bark, lay them on wax paper and sprinkle. This is where my kiddos come in handy!

ENJOY! I made these last week to take to Sunday dinner at the farm and not ONE cookie was left…

XO- Katie

Baby Boy Makes Three; In-Home Newborn Session by Brittany with KNP

We love and are appreciative of all our clients at KNP, but we must admit, there’s something so special about former happy+satisfied customers referring their family and friends. So, when one of our recent newborn clients sent her sister-in-law Elisabeth and her husband Taylor to us for their very own newborn session, we were thrilled to do it!

Our clients are everything to us, and knowing that they trust us enough to recommend KNP to their loved ones is a wonderful feeling.

Baby Jackson is one loved baby boy. We hope you enjoy a little glimpse into his in-home lifestyle newborn session from your friends at KNP.

Congratulations Reed Family! Thank you for choosing KNP to capture such a precious season for you all!

XO- Brittany

Welcoming Baby Girl

Lots of great things happen when clients fully trust us and they really take our experience and expertise to heart. This session+these clients really did all of that and the results were amazing. We send a lot of information to clients prior to their session because we want them prepared as possible. I have been photographing families for 10 years now and have learned a lot about what works and what does not.

Here at KNP we shoot+edit a certain way and most clients come to us because they too are wanting that look in their photos. We offer client styling for all our sessions and offer use of our hand picked client collection to all our clients that book a full session with us. This right here is where the whole look of your session starts… in what you wear. When clients adhere and follow our guidelines+suggestions it really makes ALL the difference in the final product. If there is one tidbit that you take away from this it is to… LISTEN TO YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER when it comes to styling. I am not just talking about KNP, if you book someone other than KNP I assure you they want to help you with styling as well so that they can deliver the best product possible for you!

Not only did these clients allow us to style their session they also did a lot of other things right which in turn made for a GREAT newborn session:

  • They fed baby prior to our time together
  • They arrived early
  • They threw the newborn feeding schedule out the window (snack breaks=happy baby)
  • They allowed me to comfort, pose, style baby while they watched
  • They always defaulted to my suggestions
  • They brought minimal accessories to the session

So we are here to help guide+direct you from the moment you inquire about a session with KNP. We want the best possible product+experience for you EVEN IF THAT MEANS RECOMMENDING ANOTHER AMAZING PHOTOGRAPHER besides someone at KNP! Yep, we are not going to be the right fit for everyone and everyone’s style so we often chat with clients and discover we aren’t the BEST fit so we recommend someone that we feel would better serve their needs.  No one likes to turn business away, but our ultimate goal is to have people LOVE their images, even if we aren’t the ones taking them!

Now enjoy this perfect little family of three!

Baby Tripp | Memphis Newborn Photographer

We love being invited into someone’s home to document their lives. This was such a sweet session and we loved getting to know these 3 during our time together. Baby Tripp was afraid of missing all the fun so he was nice and alert for the beginning of our session and he loved looking right at the camera. A few more feedings and extra snuggles and he decided he was ready for sleepy town.

Tripp’s mom and dad were so chill and let us do our thing and we absolutely LOVE the final product. It was a simple, timeless shoot showcasing life as a new family of three. We are all about the simplicity and letting you shine during your session…. so the saying Less is More, really rings true for us!

We hope you enjoy a little glimpse into this in-home lifestyle newborn session from your friends at KNP.
